I recently had the opportunity to work with Kitra, a Vancouver based company offering a genius cabinet refinishing fix, that’s a win-win for the planet and your pocketbook. Kitra believes that cabinetry’s lifespan should be extended beyond the typical 15-20 years before it ends up in a landfill, and I wholeheartedly agree, as whenever possible, PURE utilizes sustainable and mindful design practices.
Kitra shook up the industry in 2017 when they pioneered a premier refinishing service using world-class materials, proprietary equipment, and innovative techniques. Kitra’s state of the art coating + lacquer system is the first of its kind to flawlessly refinish cabinetry, using environmentally friendly, non-toxic lacquer. Their product has passed rigorous testing to ensure enhanced durability, improved air quality, the lowest environmental impact, and the elimination of odours.
We hired Kitra to give the kitchen cabinets in the #purebayviewsuite suite a much-needed makeover. The process itself was relatively painless. A Kitra makeover is typically a 2-week affair, with only 2 days of actual kitchen non-use, so there was no need to move in with the in-laws.
Our Kitra re-finish looks a lot more like a brand new kitchen than a refinish, and I was impressed with the finished product, and of course the savings! Most importantly we didn’t rip out quality cabinetry and send it to the landfill, we gave it a new lease on life. The planet’s precious resources are limited, so the idea of discarding good condition cabinetry in kitchen renovations is no longer justifiable. I especially love that they use a non-toxic lacquer system with the lowest environmental impact.
Kitra is pretty confident about their process and product, so they guarantee their work (25 years for the coating and 5 years for the craftsmanship). Their goal is to impress the renovation industry professionals, and I have to say I was blown away! Now if only I could find someone to help with the dishes!
